Each season, HCFC offers Small-sided, Entry-level and Refresher referee clinics. The Small-sided Clinic is for new referees who are 11 to 13 years old. Referees completing this clinic receive Small-sided Referee designation and are certified to officiate games up to U13. See below for further information. The Entry-level Clinic is for new referees who are 14 years old or older. Referees completing this clinic receive Youth or District designation. This allows them to officiate all small-sided or full-sided soccer matches as long as the referee is at least two years older than the players. Refresher Clinics are for current Youth, District or higher referees to keep them up to date with changes to the laws of the game.
All clinics are hosted by HCFC. Content, instruction, and administration are by BC Soccer. If you have any questions about refereeing for HCFC, please contact Ross Cameron at email@example.com.
Small Sided Referee Clinics
This is the clinic you want to take if you are 11 to 13 years old and looking to become a registered Small-sided Referee in British Columbia. If you are 11 years old when you take this clinic you may only begin refereeing once you are 12 years old.
The Small-sided Referee clinic covers the basics of refereeing. Upon successful completion of this clinic, students receive BCSA/CSA Small-sided Referee certification and may officiate matches up to U12/13 or Super 8 small-sided matches.
HCFC is hosting a two-session Small-sided Referee clinic on September 6 and 7, 2018 (two evenings). You must attend both sessions. For referees who will be officiating for HCFC, the $40.00 clinic fee will be paid by the club. Contact Ross Cameron at firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the fee-waiver code to use when signing up.
More information can be found at the BC Soccer Referee page here (https://www.bcsoccer.net/referee-clinics).
Note: Small-sided referees wanting to maintain their Small-sided Referee certification for a second season must take an annual quiz in order to re-register. They do not need to take a Refresher Clinic. Refresher clinics are reserved for referees with Youth Referee certification or higher.
Entry Level Referee Clinics
This is the clinic you want to take if you are looking to become a registered referee in British Columbia and are 14 years old or older.
The Entry Level Referee Clinic is the entry point to officiating 11-a-side soccer. Once an individual successfully completes this clinic they will be classified as a BCSA/CSA Youth Referee or District Referee depending on their age at the time of taking the clinic. Youth classification is given to referees who are 14 or 15 years old; District classification is automatically given to any referee who has passed the Entry-level clinic and is 16 years old or older.
The goal of this three-session clinic is to ensure that individuals are capable of officiating 11-a-side soccer either as a referee or assistant referee. The course is instructed by experienced referee instructors who use video educational material and practical on-field training sessions. The topics covered include Laws of the Game, Positioning, Signals, Administration of the game, Pre-Match Preparation, and Match Reporting.
This clinic is also recommended for coaches or other individuals who wish to gain a more thorough understanding of the Laws of the Game and their practical application.
HCFC is hosting a three-session Entry-level Referee clinic September 20, 21, and 22 (two evenings and one full Saturday). You must attend all three sessions to successfully complete the course. For referees who will be officiating for HCFC, the $131.25 clinic fee will be paid by the club. Contact Ross Cameron at email@example.com for the fee-waiver code to use when signing up.
More information about this clinic can be found at the BC Soccer Referee page here (https://www.bcsoccer.net/referee-clinics).
This is the clinic you want to take if you already have Youth certification or higher and want to continue refereeing in the coming season.
HCFC has applied to BC Soccer to host two Refresher Clinics this season, one clinic on September 15, 2018 and a second on October 14, 2018. For referees who will be officiating for HCFC, the $72.71 clinic fee will be paid by the club. Contact Ross Cameron at firstname.lastname@example.org for the fee-waiver code to use when signing up.In order to register for a Refresher clinic, sign into your Ref Centre account here (https://www.refcentre.com/Login.aspx?) and select ‘Registration>Refresher Courses”.
